I've done research with a number of undergraduate students in the past. My undergrad mentees tend to have some technical background, usually at least one of
coding experience, perhaps in a language like Python, R, or Julia; experience other langauges is also useful.
abstract algebra, e.g. at the level of Artin's Algebra (UCSD Math 100/103).
algebraic geometry, e.g. at the level of Hartshorne's Algebraic Geometry (UCSD Math 203).
If you're interested in doing undergraduate research with me and you have one or more of the listed skills and are willing to learn how to code (or to learn new coding skills), then I can probably find a research project for you. However, I might be too busy to mentor another student (sadly, this is somewhat likely, but feel free to ask though).
If you don't yet have the necessary background, but you're still interested in research, I'd encourage you to consider doing a reading course. I often do reading courses, and others in the department do as well. In particular, I often do reading courses on Atiyah-MacDonald, which is quite foundational for my computational research.
